Ramon Leon’s work is a constant confrontation between the intangible and the concrete. In the transition from abstract expressions to tangible forms, Leon captures the essence of what it means to be simultaneously present and absent.

In INtangible the artist dares to fuse his early work with his latest production. The result is powerful: gestures become stories, tales of deep human emotion.

His early ghosts can be read as a metaphor for the connections that define our lives, suggesting that what is intangible, often holds more weight than what we can see and touch, a theme Leon develops throughout his work.

Leon's more recent creations, his faces, are not mere portraits, but narratives drawn in bold strokes, human features inviting introspective exploration. They are built upon abstract lines —raw power and spontaneity — from which concrete figures emerge as if by chance. Contrasting colors in Leon's faces do not just fill space, but speak of life's complexity and the shadows and feelings that define us.

This work is the product of a conscious and meticulous craft. Only an artist in full control of his techniques could achieve the balance we observe in this exquisite combination of ghosts, faces, and abstraction.

In INtangible, Ramon makes us see beyond the apparent and ultimately face our emotions, memories, and ghosts as they inhabit silence. We are in front of a testament to the power of abstraction to express the concrete. Without a doubt, the highest point in the artist’s career.

Camilo Pino

Ramon Leon working on INtangible. March, 2024.

INtangibles are playful ethereal beings that live among us, their mischievous ways and seductive silhouettes have been part of Ramon Leon’s visual search for meaning and for belonging, these finely traced figures that float on effortlessly, and gather around to create a ludic comune that bounces off the whimsical gaze of the “Long Face” Characters, ever changing, evolving, adapting to the mood of the time and the place.

Leon’s life journey is a reflection of his art, the playfulness of design combined with the challenges migration brings to our resilience. Life has a way of bringing us full circle, joining Ramon and Camilo in this project is beyond special, we shared a friendship bond since we were teens, little did we know then, that we’d be together in this very special project, of tangible substance from Ramon’s INtangible soul.
